Injections & orthobiologics

Explore injection options for joint, tendon and soft tissue conditions at Joint Vision in Wollongong. We bring specialist assessment, image-guided procedures and rehabilitation together, with a treatment plan shaped around your diagnosis and the activities that matter to you.

01

Assessment first

We start with your symptoms, medical history and movement goals. Examination and relevant imaging help identify the cause of your pain and guide the next step.

02

Informed choice

Your clinician explains the available options, expected benefits, evidence, risks and costs. You have time to ask questions and decide what feels right for you.

03

Ultrasound guidance

Where appropriate, ultrasound provides a live view of the area being treated and guides needle placement. Your clinician will explain the approach and how we can support your comfort.

Treatment options

Our injection therapies

Each injection has a different role. Your specialist will help you understand which options may suit your condition and how treatment can fit with your wider care plan.

Orthobiologics

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP is prepared from a small sample of your own blood, concentrating platelets that contain proteins involved in the body’s response to injury. The preparation is then injected into the area being treated.

It may be considered for selected persistent tendon problems, plantar fasciitis and some joint conditions, alongside rehabilitation. Research results vary by condition, so your specialist will explain the potential benefits for your diagnosis.

Managing inflammation

Cortisone injections

Cortisone is an anti-inflammatory medicine used to help settle pain and swelling in selected joint and soft tissue conditions. It may be considered for bursitis, painful arthritis flares and certain tendon-sheath conditions.

Relief can make everyday movement and rehabilitation more comfortable. Your clinician will discuss the injection site, the response you might expect and how treatment fits into your recovery plan. The degree and duration of relief vary.

Joint care

Hyaluronic acid injections

Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in joint fluid, where it helps with lubrication. These injections place a preparation into the joint, usually the knee, with the aim of easing osteoarthritis symptoms.

This option may be discussed when symptoms continue despite other care. Some people report relief, although research has not established a consistent meaningful benefit. Your specialist will help you weigh this option against other treatments for your knee.

Targeted muscle treatment

Botulinum toxin (Botox)

Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces activity in targeted muscles. For selected persistent plantar fasciitis presentations, it may be considered with the aim of reducing muscle tension and strain through the plantar fascia, alongside stretching and rehabilitation.

Use for plantar fasciitis is off-label, meaning it is outside the medicine’s approved indications, and evidence is still developing. Your specialist will explain the intended benefit, alternatives and relevant risks, including temporary muscle weakness.
